MEDIA DIRECTOR | EDITOR | VIDEOGRAPHER

Media with an impact. Since 2008.

Hi, I’m Brian Roberts. Media production has taken me all over the country; from L.A. to D.C. and a hundred cities in between. Having worked in smaller production departments, I’ve learned to wear many hats. I specialize in managing the logistics of creativity, from pre-production through post-production and final delivery. I’ve worked with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies, governmental agencies, state universities, to non-profit organizations. Regardless of budget or crew size, exceptional media is never out of reach.

Call, email, or use the contact form at the bottom of this page to get in touch with me, and we can discuss how I can be an asset to your project or organization.

Areas of Practice

Pre-Production

I work with both internal organizational stakeholders and outside clients. I have a demonstrated history of determining project needs, including budgeting, scheduling, scripting, story boarding, and talent acquisition.

PRODUCTION

Proper planning during pre-production helps mitigate some of the risks associated with production. When something inevitably pops up, it’s crucial to be quick on your toes. Having worked in the field for years, I feel comfortable with variability and making production adjustments on the fly.

POST PRODUCTION

My heart lies in post production. Fluency in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and Avid Media Composer allows me to be flexible and successful in any work environment.

Media MANAGEMENT

Maintaining a standardized file structure for all assets, projects, and final edits is critical to the efficiency and success any of project and it’s stakeholders.

Resume

Senior Digital Media Producer

University of Illinois | Champaign-Urbana, Illinois | 09.2019 – Present

As a senior digital media producer, I partner with faculty members and colleagues of the Teaching & Learning department to develop video and multimedia content for use within the iMBA, iMSA, and iMSM programs offered by the Gies College of Business. I film content both in the field and in studio, using Sony and BlackMagic camera systems, and edit using the Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and iZotope RX. Over 500,000 learners are currently engaging with learning content I have produced.

When not producing instructional content, I work extensively on organizational and process efforts related to our digital asset server. I have documented and implemented a department wide media management organizational strategy that includes organizing and structuring nearly 100 terabytes of in formation and media assets, implementing a standardized naming convention for future assets, and extensive training for all Teaching & Learning digital media producers.

In partnership with the Senior Digital Media Manager, I have taken on the additional responsibility of closing out courses. The course close out process ensures that all media assets have been properly migrated to the server, are available to all producers, and meet our organizational standards. This process mitigates risk, while ensuring stronger cross-producer collaboration and long-term storage and archival viability.

The success of these efforts has afforded me unique opportunities to work with Teaching & Learning leadership and the college’s IT department on other challenges. These challenges include researching and procuring our next generation digital asset server, developing and implementing an organizational strategy for all assets across both the development and delivery of all our course offerings, and documenting and identifying areas for improvement in our hiring processes.

MEDIA DIRECTOR

The Ohio State University | Columbus, Ohio | 10.2012 – 09.2019

The Virtual Lab School is an early childhood research project at the Ohio State University, funded by the Department of Defense. The VLS serves as an online training and management platform for early childhood professionals within the military system.

As the media director, I collaborated with content creators, the technical director, and the creative director to ensure that every production met educational, technical, and brand standards. All aspects of the video production process were under my direction and management; from scripting and identifying video needs, through post-production and final delivery. In addition to my production tasks, I restructured existing media operations and asset organization by implementing best practices across the phases of production.

Having a well-defined pre-production phase saves time and resources throughout the production and post-production cycles. By updating the established production model, our videographers/editors were better able to assess the filming needs for individual courses, craft stronger, more poignant video scripts to supplement written content, and accelerate the post-production process.

With over fifteen terabytes of multimedia assets, the VLS is heavily weighted in post-production. By restructuring the asset organization and establishing standardized naming conventions for assets, projects, and final edits, I was able to help contribute to the efficiency and success of VLS editors.
